MYF FAQs

Melrose Youth Football is part of the N.E Commonwealth Youth Football and Cheer league, under the AYF umbrella. All of our coaches are certified in the “Heads-Up” safety program along with Concussion training. One coach per team is also CPR certified.  Prior to any practices, all coaches will pass an intensive course that teaches proper techniques and safety awareness.  In addition, MYF provides top of the line equipment that is tested and certified every year.  The primary focus is to create a fun environment and introduce the fundamentals of football.

The League is based on competitive 3rd thru 8th grade level teams. There are no weight limits for our teams and no high school student s are allowed to play. These levels are eligible for The NCYFC Super Bowl.  In addition or 1st and 2nd graders will play a complete 8 game schedule along with a tournament at the end of the season.

The season begins  the first week of August with 4 a day practices for our 5th -8th graders, 3 days a week for our 3rd and 4th graders and 2 days a week for our 1st and 2nd graders. Our 8 regular season games start the weekend after Labor day and go until Halloween. Depending on playoffs, the season is concluded by the 3rd week of November.

Practice is mandatory. If you are absent for more then half of the practices leading up to any game it will be up to the coaches discretion if your child should play in that weeks game or not.  A lot of planning and preparation goes into football and if we do not think your child is prepared due to miss practices we will sit them out.

There are approximately 8 scheduled weekend games and usually one scrimmage in pre-season.

Home Games are played at Fred Green Field in Melrose. All of our away games are typically in the surrounding communities.

The games are approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes long.
